No, I haven’t died from being malnourished on the first leg of our trip, horah!

Although we started with a mushroom burger and oven chips (which were seasoned to perfection I might add), we have been lucky enough to be able to eat some lush Mexican vegan food!

Please ignore the quality of my food pictures (if anyone wants to scout me to be a travel blogger, I will get a better camera and do a photography course).

I shall now list the places where we have eaten, in case this helps anyone also holidaying in Cancun and being vegan! I’m also going to rate them, because why the hell not.

Bao Vegan

We have made numerous trips here, and enjoyed tacos, enchiladas and Holz got a pasta with some questionable garlic bread. They have a varied menu, including pizza, cakes, rolls, breakfast! They don’t serve alcohol but do lovely mocktails – I had a mojito and Holz had a cocoa milkshake.

I give them a solid 8/10 for flavour, variety and the fact it was the first nice vegan place we went to!

The Selina Downtown Hostel

We came here to use the pool and lounge in the sun, turns out they have a lovely menu full of vegan treats. Including poke bowl’s, acai bowls and a beyond meat burger! We came here for a breakfast acai bowl. We came back for breakfast again the next day, and again the next day! I had “toast green” both times because it was so nice. It was jackfruit, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes. Hollie had a wrap with rice, vegan cheese, tomatoes, sprouts and avocado which was served on sauté potatoes.

I give this place a royal 9/10 because it is dreamy, they have lush music playing, sun loungers, a clean pool and a fab vibe.

I should note that the Selina Hostel in the hotel area did not have any vegan options, so I did get 4 plates of chips (they were small plates I swear, and I hadn’t eaten since breakfast). Chip advisor rating is 9/10 – they were amazing chips… well obviously, I ate 4 (small) plates!!

100% Natural

I came here after a heavy night and surprisingly with a name like 100% natural, you would think there would be more vegan options, but from my memory (it is a bit hazey as I was still drunk) they only had fruit as a vegan option. I thoroughly enjoyed my jar of fruit, and ate pomegranate for the first time. I didn’t really like it at first, but after I googled and saw all the health benefits, I ensured to eat it all!

I also got a LUSH drink, they had a big menu divided into sections like “health benefits” “antioxidants” and so I got something that would help with my well being! It tasted of celery and was lovely!!!

The outdoor seating had jungle vibes, which pushes the rating up to a 6/10 (it’s only low due to the lack of options for food really) – I guess this is more of the place to go for a healthy drink!

Taqueria Vegana

This place was located in a night market in a little square near our hostel. It opened at 7.30pm and was run by a couple. A lady had 3 tubs of fillings and a stove with a frying pan and a pan for the tortilla’s. Holz and I got a Tortas each with one of the fillings “Pastor Barbacoa” and “Bistek” – so that we could have half each – which worked out well because one was nicer than the other – we are not sure which. I got quite full and had 3 tacos to eat, so did what I could. I felt so bad handing the plate back to the lady with food still on it, she looked so sad, but I pointed to my belly to indicate that I was full!

This was such a cute little set up, so cheap – it worked out to be like £3, and was our first experience of street food, so I give this place a 8/10 – the only downside is the time it takes to get served as it is just one lady with one frying pan. But then does that make me sound super inpatient?! Hey, I’m just being honest!
