I must apologise now, as this post isn’t going to be that funny, as it is more of a “we did this, and we did that” – so yeah….
Day 1
I have already written about the whirlwind that was our first day, so I will write about the first night in the hostel dorm! OH and I should also mention that we discovered they play beer pong slightly differently here. They had set up the cups with water in, so Holz and I watered the plants and filled the cups with beer. We played as normal – you try to throw the ball into the cup, and then drink the beer from the chosen cup! Half way through playing, someone told us that you are not meant to fill the drinks with your own, and just have a drink at the side to sip once a ball goes in a cup …. to prevent everyone drinking out of the cups! OOPS! A girl from Canada said this was how they do it at home as well, even with friends. My friend tells me they do it this way because they cannot handle their drink – so who knows, but at least we know now. OH and the next day I saw the cups being set up, and being filled up with WATER FROM THE POOL. (The pool is green and full of dead insects). It’s all good for our immune system I say!

So then we came back to the dorm to sleep, and met David – there were still 2 other beds free which would become occupied in the middle of the night by someone who (I thought was talking in his sleep, but we think he was actually on his phone), he was tossing and turning and his bed was creaking so much, it sounded as if it could fall apart at any minute! I then had a really strange dream that someone was coming for me in my bunk bed and I had to run downstairs – FREAKY! Anyways this guy then ended up leaving the room and the door open, and someone later shut it – so he was locked out, and woke me up by banging to get back in! I begrudgingly got off the top bunk and let him in, and he said “I’ve broken my arm” and was wrapped in bandages. At this point I forgave him for his noise. It was a very broken nights sleep, as there was a lot of screaming and shouting outside – but that was in the description for the hostel – it literally said “this isn’t the place to come if you want to sleep”.
Day 2 –
On our second day we went to the supermarket and got fruit and ingredients for wraps – although there isn’t a kitchen here, so we have used the wardrobe for food storage and preparation! Then we headed to the beach with some people from the hostel, which involved getting a 10 minute bus which played music!

The sea was a beautiful blue and the sand was a creamy white! Although there wasn’t much sand, as the space had been built on by posh hotels! We sat on loungers under a hotel that had a pool over looking the beach. I felt almost like a peasant whilst these people over looked us – but how is that possible whilst I am on a beautiful beach!!!

The sea was warm, but the waves were rough! I got taken out by one, and consequently lost my sunglasses – thankfully I packed about 4 pairs ( I cannot deal with squinting or brightness!). We played Rummie with our fellow hostel friends, and eventually headed back as we needed to get ready for Coco Bongo!

We showered and made our way to get food.. And stopped by a place that had a drummer singing, and we enjoyed a very large, and very strong strawberry mojito!

Then we went to a vegan restaurant called Bao Vegan – what a treat! We enjoyed tacos and enchiladas and the fact that we had found somewhere we could eat nice food! We then met Candela who is a volunteer at the hostel and was taking us to Coco Bongo… Which did not disappoint!!! As we entered we got to see Beetlejuice singing and flying over us. It was an epic show filled with aerial hoppers, silks, and batman flying through the air. We danced around a square bar, it’s a wonder no one fell off into the middle. We were given shots whilst dancing – I bet that guy loves his job! It was a truly epic night!

Day 3 –
I woke up about 8am still in last nights clothes, and still feeling drunk! Hollie was sleeping so I went out for a walk, and got a lovely fresh celery smoothie and a jug of fruit. It was very much needed.

I then had a stroll around the town, and went back about 11am and Holz was still sleeping (I wish I could sleep like that). We then went to Bao Vegan again for food, and at this point I was feeling very tired. We decided we needed a pool day, but as our hostels pool looks deadly we were recommended to go to The Selina hostel.

The Selina is beautiful, it has a bar, music, sun loungers and a really nice vibe! We laid in the sun and got speaking to Anna from Canada who was on holiday. We then left and got ready to go out for a few drinks. We could hear music from a roundabout, which had a huge colourful piñata on! We wondered how we would ever cross the road, but a police man was there to stop traffic. On the roundabout we could hear speeches in Spanish, so we had no idea what was going on. Someone asked to interview me, and he said it was a celebration for the piñata. These two ladies sung Feliz Navidad, and Christmas songs, so that was super cute! I was super tired so I had to throw the towel in about 10.30pm, and Hollie went out and partied at the hostel bar.

Day 4 –
Today Hollie and I are booked to go to the Cenotes, zip lining and riding ATV’s. We went to the Selina for breakfast and navigated our way to the meeting point. On the bus was a friendly Canadian couple and a group that we had to wait about 40 minutes for (knew they would be trouble from this moment).
It was about an hour and a half drive in a mini bus that sounded like a plane, so it made me rather sleepy… But our first activity once we arrived was a dip in the Cenote (well actually we zip lined in – I am such a wimp, it took me about 3 minutes to do it and a lot of encouragement). It was really fun and I’m so glad I did it. Me and holz tried to get some nice pictures and failed miserably!

Then we had to walk over a rickity bridge to do zip lining. The bridge walk was terrifying as you had to hold onto the rope above you, and I was in crocs, which are very bulky and not in the slightest but suitable for delicate high rope walking! The zip lines were really fun, and we did the last one upside down. I would show you a pic but it was like 80 dollars.
Then we rode ATV’s through the jungle, Hollie drove and I sat onto the back. We went over rocky terrain and I thought we had survived the journey with out a mishap, when Hollie drove us into a bush! Luckily it was just a bush, and not the hard structure that stood close to it! A lovely couple stopped to help and the 4 of us pulled the bike out and on we went!

Then there was tequila tasting, the caramel and coffee ones were dreamy! We then ate (I am starving by this point) 3 tiny tacos, and attempted to eat the wraps we had made, which had turned into a soggy mush. Noted for future. There was also an Aztec warrior who played the steel drums, whilst another did fire poi!

The group who were late on the bus to start, were late again, and all hammered!!! One girl was sick all over the floor, and one guy practically fell out of the bus. They didn’t even offer to help the driver clean up the sick!
When we got back Hollie and I spent about an hour sewing her trouser legs up, and then headed to the hostel bar. We played beer pong again, and hung out with Anna who booked to come to Coco beach with us! Later that evening Hollie and I had our first argument based on 2 dead bugs in a sweetcorn tin! It was all fine though and we hugged before bed so there wasn’t any bad tension when we woke up!

Day 5 –
After yesterday’s activities me and Hollie needed a decent shower, and as our one is like a slow cold dribble, Anna kindly let us go to her place for a shower. Her room has a kitchen, a king size bed, a TV and a balcony!!! Then Hollie, Anna, Candela, Jeanette and myself headed to Coco Beach party. The sister of coco bongo! Its an open bar, with foam parties, music, entertainment in the form of a giant spiderman on a crane being lifted over, with a performer dressed as spiderman doing aerial tricks in a net. He also did this on a hoop attached to a huge duck!! There was also dancers, and they played the England game too! As the venue backs onto the beach, myself and Anna went for a dip in the sea, where Anna taught me to go under the big waves, and to jump over the smaller ones. Anna consequently lost her phone in said waves, as they pulled on the phone case strap that was wrapped around her wrist. Then Hollie and Jeanette came out and we all tried to look for the phone… It would have been a miracle if we found it! We then went back inside coco beach to continue the party… I have no idea how we were absolutey hammered, but I did go on to eat 4 plates of chips after. All that drinking is hungry work!

The girls had met some guys who were staying at the Selina (a different one) so we chilled at the pool there for a while, and met an American man who came out with Hollie and I. We paid 200 pasos to get into Senior Frogs, which was basically like a Thanet club, so we tried to get a refund but were unsuccessful! Then left and went into a Monkey Business (for free) and danced to an epic band, with sparklers to finish! At least we got our 200 pasos worth of entertainment here!
Hollie and I also managed to navigate getting the bus back, so that was a result!

Day 6 –
This morning I woke up and went to meet Anna as she took my bag home for me the night before, and then Hollie came over and we got food. It is Anna’s last day so she left at 2pm and Holz and I chilled on the sun loungers and enjoyed the Selina downtown pool for the last time. It was a well needed rest day in the sunshine!

Then we came back to the hostel and we have 3 new dorm mates. They are all very quiet, and you may think this is a good thing, but there needs to be some level of chat and fun, it all feels very sombre and awkward. We went to a local park where there is a night market, and we got some tacos and a bun – I felt so bad as I couldn’t eat it all, and the lady looked so sad when I handed the plate back.

Then we went to Nomads hostel and played table football and pool. A Canadian man started talking to us, he was really funny, and not shy on buying drinks – he bought 3 rounds of shots, that cost 200 pasos each – that’s like a tenner – and he was buying about 7 at a time for everyone around him! He was hilarious, but stopped getting as funny the more drunk he got! He did say though that at Nomads it was harder to make friends, and we have made a lot of friends at Fiesta, so it all worked out okay in the end (I will write an entry to give redemtion for Fiesta hostel after I slated it!)

We ended our night at Fiesta hostel with more beer pong, although when you don’t drink from the cups, it is more like a sport than a drinking game! It was a super fun last night, and Fiesta hostel doesn’t have a check out time, so we can relax and take it easy as we pack up alllllllll our stuff and prepare to head to Tulum!
