We were promised techno, which would have been preferable to house, but hey, we’re travelling and all about new experience right!
So the lovely Sara and Mara told us about this rave, and when we first looked there weren’t any tickets left, only 100 for sale on the day. So we booked Hostal Azul and were prepared to go and buy tickets on the day.
On the morning of the 31st I got a message from Edo to say that people had been queuing since 7.30am… We had planned to get there for 11am, but at 10.30am we took a walk over and collected some Uno cards from Boca Boca to play whilst we waited.
We met the lovely Kimberly in the queue who told us to sign our name in the book (how democratic), we were numbers 52 and 53.

I hate to queue, but this wasn’t so bad as we played Uno (Queno) and chatted to the other hopefully ticket buyers.

At 12pm they announced that the list would be honoured, and they let us into the hostel to wait until 1pm. The manager of the Tree House Hostel was selling the tickets, with the help of 2 people (we did wonder why it took 3 people to do 1 job, and it really would have sped up the process if they each sold the tickets). It finally got around to us at 2.30pm!!! Which didn’t leave much time to get an outfit, eat, get ready and pre drink.
To complicate things for myself I decided to buy 3 bits of material and sew some together to make a top. I was pleased with how it turned out, I did cheat a bit and use safry pins. We put glitter on our faces and were ready to rock… Or what ever you do to house music.

We were reunited with Sara and Mara, and played Water Pong, and we share the same feelings about water pong being water pong.

We then headed to the catch the shuttle, which was an open top truck, much the same as something I imagine they transport cattle in. It was a fun breezey drive… Much more enjoyable than the way back… But we will get to that bit later.
We arrived at the Tree House Hostel, which is in the jungle. We had to climb up vertical rocks (not the best for people heading out to drink and get merry) get our bag searched and head in.
The set up is a tree house (clues in the name) which was lit with funky lazers and filled with people. There was also a questionable tattoo parlour…. We attempted to dance to the house music and were teased at one point by some bass, but it didn’t last long.
There is a cool suspension bridge that runs across the trees, and was fun to walk across. At midnight they set off fireworks, and we could see across the whole of Granada who were also letting off fireworks, it looked awesome!

We ended the night by sitting on the top deck and chatting to people. One guy sounded like he was having a go at us for saying we were trying to travel on just £500 a month.. He said something about ‘learning your lesson’, and was amazed that we hadn’t travelled before and chose to come to Central and South America. I don’t think he was being rude, he was just shocked!
At 5.30am we climbed down the rocks to get the shuttle (luckily I was not intoxicated, but I wondered how anyone who was even slightly tipsy was meant to manage and not break a bone). We were some of the first people there, so chose a spot by the outside rail. The truck was quickly filled with people and it became very squished. I don’t have any pictures as I was near to having a panic attack, but if I had a picture it would be of a truck with about 200 people in. The engine started and the truck didn’t move. I said I was worried and the girl next to me said it would be fine (I didn’t believe her) . As we were on the edge I just imagined the whole thing tipping over and us being crushed to death. There have been a few stories of devesating crushes happening recently, and I did not want to be apart of those statistics. I wriggled through the rail and jumped out, and Hollie did too.
The truck drove off and we jumped in the back of a pick up truck that was so very full. I thought this would be safer, but as I sat on the edge I could feel the rail around the outside wobble. Thankfully the driver drove slowly and we did make it home in one piece. Imagine dying after listening to house music all night… That is not the way to go.
Anyways Happy New Year!
We came back to the hostel and sat with Elliot, Richie Rachel and Sam. There were some hilariously random conversations being had, mostly led by Richie, which included him asking Ozzy Sam and Rachel if they would punch a kangaroo! We ate breakfast and went to bed about 8.30am, bring on 2023!
