Okay okay, so after our first hectic day, which I did title as “Shit Show in Mexico”, I feel it is only now fair to give Fiesta Hostel it’s redemption as Hollie and I ended up having a wicked time there!
The lack of hot water, water pressure and creaky beds is made up for by a variety of factors:
The Wonderful Volunteers
It seemed like every other person here was a volunteer, and they had a family feel about them. You could see how it was easy to get comfortable and settled here. We met the lovely Candela who took Hollie and I to Coco Bongo – I do not remember the journey home, so thank god Candela was with us, as I have no idea how we would have got home with out her! (don’t worry mum…I wouldn’t have been as drunk if I knew I had to be responsible to navigate my way back though!) We then went to Coco Beach with Candela and Jeanette. Candela also suggested going to the beach to watch the sunrise on the last day. Dario also took us to the beach, and took us to a spot where we were allowed to drink alcohol!

The People
We met a lot of people at the bar area – where it is smaller and more intimate than other hostels, it was easy enough to get chatting over a game of beer pong. We met someone at the Nomad’s hostel bar, and he said it was hard to make friends there … so despite the fact that we initially thought we had lucked out by not staying there, it turns out socially we were very lucky!

Drinks are a Reasonable Price
This hostel is very reasonable compared to many others – it is 35 pesos for a beer, which is £1.44!!! They also do Happy Hour every day from 6-8pm, so that’s two cocktails for 50 pesos, which is £2.06 *jaw drop* – admittedly the cocktails were a bit random sometimes with ingredients … but hey as long as the spirits are in there, who cares what it’s mixed with, for two quid who can really complain! They also play “shots shots shots” at 8.30pm and everyone gets a free shot!

THE CHIPS ARE BANGING
I wrote about how nice the chips were on our first day with a burger, so we couldn’t leave the hostel with out having them one last time. They are seasoned to perfection with garlic, salt and parsley – absolute chip heaven for a chip lover like me (rest assured I have eaten lots of lovely Mexican food too – which you can ready about “Being Vegan in Cancun”.

I Got my Welcome Shot of Tequila!
If you read my blog “Shit Show in Mexico” you would know that I was horrified to not be greeted with a shot of tequila … well Ignacio who is a volunteer and a journalist read my blog, and not only was he impressed with my writing, he GAVE ME THE FREE SHOT! To be fair, he actually gave me lots of free drinks and shots, so a big thanks to Ignacio!

So yeah, big up The Fiesta Hostel… I’m sorry for what I said when I was tired…..
Basically keep a track of payments and what has been paid or not, so you aren’t stung upon arrival
Speak to all the lovely volunteers and people for the best time and trips possible!
Check out all the places located around the hostel, as it has a good location, close to a square with a night market and lots of bars and restaurants!
